Weekly Recalls: Ford, Subaru, Honda, BMW/Rolls-Royce/Toyota

Recall Street Sign

FORD

Affected Fords: Approximately 18,000 model-year 2019 Ford Ranger pickup trucks built at the Michigan Assembly Plant Aug. 1-Sept. 27

The Issue: The climate control blower motor may have been built with an improper clearance between an electrical terminal and the conductive base-plate slot and could result in a resistive electrical short. This condition increases the risk of the blower motor overheating, melting, smoking or causing a fire, increasing the risk of an accident or injury. Ford said in a statement that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this defect — though it did receive one “potentially related” driver report of smoke while the vehicle was in motion.

The Repair: Dealers will inspect the climate control blower motor and replace it, free of charge, if it is within the suspect part production dates.

What Owners Should Do: Ford did not immediately announce an owner-notification schedule. Owners can call the automaker at 800-392-3673, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.

SUBARU

Affected Subarus: Approximately 366,200 model-year 2015-18 Subaru Forester SUVs equipped with heated seats.

The Issue: An electrical connection in the front passenger seat for the occupant detection system may loosen, which could cause the front passenger airbag to deactivate even though the seat is occupied, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

The Repair: Dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace the ODS sensor mat harness for free once parts become available.

What Owners Should Do: Subaru will begin notifying owners Nov. 29. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts are available. Owners can call the automaker at 844-373-6614, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.

HONDA

Affected Hondas: Approximately 336,500 model-year 2019 Honda CR-V SUVs.

The Issue: The owner’s manual incorrectly describes when the “Passenger Airbag Off” indicator should illuminate. If the front passenger does not correctly understand how the airbag functions, there may be an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

The Repair: Honda will provide a sticker with the correction information to be added to the owner’s manual for free.

What Owners Should Do: Honda will begin notifying owners Nov. 15. Owners can call the automaker at 888-234-2138, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.

BMW-ROLLS-TOYOTA

Affected Vehicles: Approximately 257,500 model-year 2018 BMW 540d sedans; model-year 2018-20 BMW 530i, 540i, M550i, M5, 530e and 530e sedans; model-year 2018-20 BMW X3, X3 M40i and X3 M SUVs; model-year 2019-20 BMW X4, X4 M40i, X4 M, X5, X5 M50i, X6, X6 M50i, X7 and X7 M50i SUVs; model-year 2019-20 BMW 330i, M340i, 740 Le, 740Li, 745Le and 750Li sedans; model-year 2019-20 8 Series and Z4 convertibles and coupes; model-year 2018-19 BMW 640i Gran Turismo coupes and Rolls-Royce Phantom sedans; model-year 2019 BMW M850i Gran Coupe coupes and Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUVs; and model-year 2020 Toyota Supra coupes.

The Issue: The backup camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rearview image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in Reverse, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Repair: Dealers will update the backup camera software for free.

What Owners Should Do: BMW will begin notifying owners Nov. 19. Owners can call BMW at 800-525-7417, Rolls-Royce at 877-877-3735, Toyota at 888-270-9371, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
